Short answer

Westin does not name which room pairs connect. Hyatt Regency Times Square names two pairs (a King room with a Double Queen room, six guests combined; the Presidential Suite with a King room, four guests combined) but calls them a limited number, subject to availability. The Westin overview says “Guaranteed Connecting Rooms” while its room dialogs say “available (for some rooms)”; Hyatt says it cannot guarantee connecting rooms without advance notice. Keep any confirmation in writing.

IHG hotels on this site

The IHG pages we read for these hotels (room name, published maximum, bed layout for the night we searched) do not mention connecting rooms, except the Holiday Inn Express Las Vegas E Tropicana page (“rooms that adjoin”, see the table), so for the other IHG hotels we cannot say whether any of the 19 IHG-brand hotels on this site (10 Staybridge Suites, 7 Holiday Inn Club Vacations, 1 Candlewood Suites, 1 Holiday Inn Express & Suites) can connect two rooms. Ask the hotel, keep the answer in writing, and treat anything less as a request: “Can you assign two rooms that connect for five guests, and note it on the reservation?” This is our reading of what the pages leave out, not a statement by IHG. Find the hotels by brand or by city.

Two phrases that are not interchangeable (our reading, not hotel definitions)

The wording controls whether the family has a confirmed product or a preference. The right-hand columns are our reading of the words, not definitions published by a hotel.

Marriott overview and room dialogs

The Westin New York at Times Square

Connecting
The overview says "Take advantage of our Guaranteed Connecting Rooms" and mentions a Westin Family Package that offers savings on a second connecting room (no amount read). All eleven room dialogs say "Connecting rooms are available (for some rooms)", so a connection is not available in every room of a type.
Eligible pairs: not confirmed
The service address redirected to the service site's home page, and its connecting-rooms tile did not open after three tries. Which room pairs connect is therefore not confirmed: none is named on the pages we could read.
Room dialogs (11 read)
Double rooms and the Grand Deluxe Family Room: max 4. King rooms: max 3. Junior Suite and 1 Bedroom Suite: max 4 (suite names as read from the room dialogs). A twelfth button (no code) showed the 1 Bedroom Suite again.
Rollaways and cribs
Two-bed rooms: rollaways not permitted. King rooms and both suites: one rollaway permitted. Cribs permitted (1) in all eleven. See the fifth-person article.
Combined maximum
A King room (max 3) plus a two-bed room (max 4) adds to 7, and a suite (max 4) plus a two-bed room (max 4) to 8. That is our arithmetic on the maximums read; Marriott states no combined figure and does not confirm which rooms connect.

Maximum occupancy
King Rooms 2; Double Queen Rooms 4; Suites (King bedded) 2; Presidential Suite 2.
Connecting
"Subject to availability." A limited number of King Rooms connect to a Double Queen Room for a combined six guests; the Presidential Suite has a corridor connector to a King Room for a combined four. Note it at booking; "We cannot guarantee connecting rooms without advance notice."
Rollaways and cribs
Rollaways available in specific room types. Pack N' Plays with advance request, "not guaranteed and subject to availability".

The check-in surprise

Picture two rooms booked for the family, with “connecting, please” typed into the notes. At the desk the rooms turn out to be on the same floor but several doors apart.

The reservation carried a preference, not a confirmed connection. The decision to make before payment is whether you are buying a confirmed connection or asking the hotel to try.

Illustrative scenario: an invented example of a typical booking problem, not a report of a real stay.

What each hotel page says about connecting rooms

The line differs by exact room type, so “connecting rooms are available” on one room says nothing about the next. “Not on the page” means the page we read is silent.

If the door is not there when you check in

These steps are our suggestion, not a hotel rule. What a hotel does when a requested connection cannot be given is not on the pages we read; ask.

  1. Before travelling, get the request in writing and ask for the two exact room names, not only “connecting”.
  2. At the desk, show the written reply and ask for the two rooms with the internal door. Have both adults present if the rooms are under different names.
  3. If no connected pair exists that night, decide before you accept keys, because what the hotel does is not on the pages we read; ask.
  4. Do not move children into a separate room as a stopgap unless the hotel has confirmed it is allowed. Whether a minor may occupy a room without an adult is not stated on the pages we read (see the one-suite article).
  5. Keep every message. After the stay, the written record is what you can point to.

For one suite instead of two rooms, see one suite or two rooms for a family of five; after booking, see the booking confirmation checklist.

Subject: Connecting rooms for [dates]: written confirmation please

Hi,

I would like to book two rooms that connect through an internal door, for 2 adults and 3 children (ages [__], [__], [__]), from [arrival] to [departure]. The rooms are [exact room name 1] and [exact room name 2]. Could you confirm in writing:

1. That these two room types can be assigned as a connecting pair, and that this is guaranteed rather than a request.
2. That the connection is noted on both reservations ([number 1] and [number 2]).
3. What happens if no connecting pair is free on arrival.

Thank you,
[your name]

What the confirmation must show

  • Confirmed or guaranteed connecting language, the two room types and both reservation numbers.
  • The two exact room names, and do not assume another pair inherits the promise.
  • If the wording says only “adjacent” or “adjoining”, ask whether there is an internal door; the hotel pages we read do not say.
  • If no adult can safely occupy the second room without an internal door, a request-only path does not settle the trip.

Quick answers

Which room pairs connect at the Westin and Hyatt Regency Times Square?

Westin: none named on the pages we could read. Hyatt's FAQ (read October 16, 2026) names two: a King room with a Double Queen room (six guests combined) and the Presidential Suite with a King room (four guests combined), described as a limited number, subject to availability.

Does “rooms that adjoin” mean an internal door?

The Holiday Inn Express Las Vegas rooms page says "rooms that adjoin" and does not say whether there is an internal door. Ask the hotel.

What should the confirmation email say?

Look for confirmed or guaranteed connecting language, the two room types and both reservation numbers.

Which rooms say connecting rooms are not available?

On Marriott's room cards read October 16, 2026, the JW Marriott 2 Bedroom Suite with Pool View (SU2B0030) and Family Suite (SU2B0025) say "Connecting rooms are not available", while the 2 Bedroom Suite with Balcony (SU2B0021) says "available (for some rooms)". Clementine Anaheim says connecting rooms are not available in any suite.

What if the connecting door is not there at check-in?

The pages we read do not say what a hotel does in that case. Our suggestion: get the two exact room names in writing before travelling, show that reply at the desk, and do not place children in a separate room unless the hotel confirms it is allowed.
